Echo Magazine was created in the College Magazine Workshop, an upper-level journalism class at Columbia College Chicago. In the past, we distributed it on campus, thinking of it mainly as a college magazine. But Echo has grown up into a city magazine–a publication for curious, creative people throughout Chicago. We started the semester brainstorming ideas, looking for new topics as well as fresh takes on issues that had been written about before.

The course at Columbia College is very intensive, this Web site was created to showcase the work that previous students have done. The course teaches students how to use various computer software to build, develop, and print a magazine issue. This teaches students a great deal of what they will need to know for their future jobs in publications.

Not only does the course teach students how to use various resources but it also teaches the students how to research, write, and edit their own articles before being published.
